
Trauma still driving careers in health and safety
Nearly half of today’s health and safety professionals were propelled into the field by personal experience with workplace accidents, according to new findings from RRC International. From falls and gas leaks to life-altering injuries, these incidents highlight the stark human cost of safety failures. Another third made the switch after witnessing harm to someone close to them. The message is clear: poor safety culture ripples far beyond the factory floor. With falls from height still the UK’s top workplace killer, the sector must move from reactive recruitment to proactive prevention. Embedding a culture of training, shared responsibility and continuous improvement isn’t just good policy—it’s personal.
