Smartphone test promises faster diabetes diagnosis and major NHS savings

A new smartphone test could cut type 2 diabetes diagnosis from months to under ten minutes. NHS trusts in Cumbria and the North East are piloting the Diabetes Health Check app, with nationwide rollout expected later this year.

Developed by diagnostics company PocDoc, the app allows patients to complete tests quickly and easily, with results delivered on the spot. Beyond earlier intervention and improved patient outcomes, the technology is forecast to save the NHS billions in long-term costs.
