The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has certified Amazon’s self-driving unit Zoox for demonstration use, closing a 2022 probe into its compliance with federal requirements.

Zoox, which builds purpose-built autonomous vehicles without traditional controls, received an exemption in June allowing its fleet to operate on U.S. public roads. The move aligns with faster federal processing of self-driving exemption requests, following earlier stalled proposals from GM and Ford.
