Dublin-based start-up Luna Systems has raised €1.5 million to bring AI-assisted cycling and motorcycle safety cameras to market.
Founded at Dublin City University just over five years ago, the company aims to enhance rider safety with advanced radar and AI technology.
The upcoming products will connect to riders’ phones via an app, offering a rear view, collision warnings, blindspot detection, headway monitoring, and post-ride incident mapping for blackspot identification. Luna will also launch a dual AI camera system for integration by e-bike and motorcycle manufacturers.
Andrew Fleury, CEO of Luna Systems, said: “Six in ten people are still too afraid to cycle in their area. Fear of mixing in traffic is a crucial barrier preventing people from getting on a bike – especially in a busy city. Meanwhile, technology is here that can play a huge role to bridge that gap, helping everyone to feel safer as they move through their city. This funding enables us to accelerate our hardware development and push on with our mission.”
The investment round was led by cycling-focused VC firm Fundracer Capital and EIT Urban Mobility, and supported by Enterprise Ireland. Fleury expressed gratitude to shareholders, Fundracer Capital, EIT Urban Mobility, and Enterprise Ireland for their support and guidance in advancing Luna Systems’ cycling safety technology.
The new system is expected to create a new category in cycling safety, providing urban commuters with the benefits of advanced rider assistance systems, similar to ADAS technology in vehicles, while increasing confidence for cyclists and motorcyclists navigating traffic.
