Casting an eye back over the Health & Safety Excellence Awards 2026, held last 30th April at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, the Health & Safety Team of the Year award went to Jons Civil Engineering Ltd., in recognition of a year in which a connected, well-coordinated team raised the standard of safety management across the business.

The Jons Civil Engineering H&S Team's achievements in 2025 rested on a clear principle: lasting safety performance comes from getting the fundamentals right and applying them consistently. Enhanced training strengthened the competence and confidence of colleagues at every level, while standardised controls ensured that best practice was applied in the same way across the organisation rather than varying from one region to the next. In civil engineering, where working environments change constantly, that consistency is a powerful foundation for managing risk.

Equally significant was the team's use of data. Data-driven systems gave the team a clearer view of performance, allowing decisions to be guided by evidence and attention to be directed where it would have the greatest effect. That analytical approach was supported by digital modernisation, bringing the company's safety processes into line with the demands of a fast-moving sector and reflecting a team willing to invest in better ways of working.

Workforce engagement sits at the centre of the story. Collaboration across regions and departments strengthened safety culture, improved compliance, and ensured that best practice was shared and applied consistently throughout the company. That cross-functional approach reflects an understanding that safety is a shared commitment rather than the responsibility of one team alone, and it is what allows improvements to take hold in day-to-day operations.

The outcome is a team positioned as a forward-thinking leader in safety management. The strength of Jons Civil Engineering on the night reinforces that picture, with colleague Lily Rose Murphy-Ownsworth also taking the Women in Health & Safety Award.

The judging panel's decision to name Jons Civil Engineering Health & Safety Team of the Year reflects a simple and encouraging truth: the safest organisations are those where every function moves in the same direction.

Stay tuned for the Health & Safety Excellence Awards 2027 cycle, where organisations from across Ireland will once again have the opportunity to showcase their commitment to workplace health and safety excellence.
