UK healthcare provider Bupa has partnered with insurtech firm YuLife to launch a Health Cash Plan designed to help businesses reduce workplace absence, improve employee wellbeing and broaden access to everyday healthcare services.

According to PR Newswire, the Bupa x YuLife Health Cash Plan combines Bupa's clinical expertise with YuLife's digital wellbeing platform, enabling employees to engage in daily health challenges, build preventive health habits and claim reimbursement for a range of everyday healthcare costs including dental, optical, therapies, diagnostics and prescriptions.

The plan integrates a suite of digital healthcare services within the YuLife app, including online GP appointments, musculoskeletal support and a skin check tool for potential skin cancer concerns, alongside Bupa's Employee Assistance Programme and a 24/7 nurse helpline.

Three tiers of cover are available, with a book-rated pricing model intended to give employers greater predictability over long-term costs. Employers also gain access to anonymised, real-time workforce wellbeing insights through Yunity, YuLife's intelligence layer, enabling early intervention to address emerging health risks.

The launch comes as UK businesses contend with approximately 150 million working days lost to illness each year and an estimated £25 billion lost to presenteeism annually.

Early data from the YuLife platform indicates measurable outcomes including a 20% increase in physical activity, a 53% reduction in stress levels and an 11.5% reduction in absenteeism among users.

"Businesses are under growing pressure from rising levels of absence and poor workforce wellbeing," said Dan Sullivan, director of product and proposition at Bupa UK Insurance. "By bringing together high-quality care, preventive support and digital wellbeing services, we're evolving to meet the changing needs of our customers."
