US e-commerce and technology company Amazon has achieved a 43 per cent decrease in its Global Recordable Incident Rate since 2019 alongside a 70 per cent reduction in its Global Lost Time Incident Rate across six years, according to People Matters.
The performance improvement stems from sustained capital deployment in innovation, workforce development and culture-focused safety protocols.
Amazon has committed over $2.5bn (€2.17bn) to safety enhancement programmes since 2019, encompassing ergonomic modifications, robotic assistance systems and artificial intelligence-based risk mitigation tools. The company's proprietary Dragonfly feedback platform captured over 200,000 employee safety recommendations, enabling immediate response to identified workplace hazards.
Amazon's Vice President of Global Workplace Health and Safety stated: "Behind every metric is a person. Keeping our employees and partners safe is the most important thing we do, and it drives how we innovate, invest, and operate every day."
United States operations recorded sustained advancement across General Warehousing and Storage plus Courier and Express Delivery Services classifications. Courier sector RIR declined 59 per cent over six years whilst LTIR contracted 81 per cent. International operations completed 10.4 million safety inspections during 2025, representing 33 per cent year-on-year growth.
The methodology integrates "Prevention through Design" principles eliminating hazards before worker exposure, complemented by practical training and ongoing verification protocols. Robotic assistance technology including Robin, Cardinal and Proteus units mitigates physical stress, whilst artificial intelligence applications support operational decision-making for frontline personnel.
Partner safety initiatives extend to delivery drivers and long-distance transport operators through advanced visibility systems, in-vehicle surveillance and structured training via the Integrated Last Mile Driver Academy programme.
