The UK is set to become the first country to deploy AI across hospital databases to flag safety risks before they escalate into scandals. The system, part of the Government’s upcoming 10-year health plan, will scan for patterns indicating abuse, serious injury or deaths that could otherwise go unnoticed. When red flags arise, the Care Quality Commission will send rapid inspection teams to investigate.

A maternity-focused AI will roll out in November to detect spikes in stillbirths, neonatal deaths and brain injuries using near real-time data. Leaders say this move will transform the NHS from analogue to digital, enabling faster detection of systemic failures and saving lives before tragedies unfold.
